  1. The Association of Shareware Professionals is glad to now accept Associate
  2. members. The four categories of Associate member are outlined below. This
  3. document spells out the "official" membership requirements of the ASP.

  5. There are 4 separate application forms in the attached files APPRESS.TXT,
  6. APPUG.TXT, APPROBA.TXT, and APPFOS.TXT. If you are interested in joining,
  7. these files set spell out all the details.

  15. All applicants and Associate Members must be, and continue to be, people
  16. dedicated to the advancement of the shareware principle and the supportive
  17. of the aims and goals of the ASP.
  18.  
  19. All Associate Members will receive a subscription to the ASPects monthly
  20. newsletter and have access to the members only Sections and Libraries 10,
  21. 11, and 12 of the ASPFORUM on CompuServe. They will also receive the
  22. back issues of ASPects on disk.

  24. All Associate Member applications will be reviewed by a committee that
  25. will judge whether the minimum requirements are met. If there is a
  26. negative disposition, the BoD will automatically review the committee's
  27. actions. In case of a rejection for Associate Membership, the submitted
  28. dues will be returned minus a $15 processing fee.

  30. A list of Associate Members (except Probationary Members) will be kept
  31. current and made available to ASP Members and the public.

  33. Specific criteria for each category of Associate Member follows:

  35. - Press Members:
  36.   $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1.
  37.   - At the minimum, the applicant must have published works (books or
  38.     major magazine articles) that have explained the shareware concept
  39.     and the necessity for registration.
  40.   - The Membership Committee will receive sample published works to
  41.     help its process.
  42.   - The Member must continue to be an active writer (generally considered
  43.     to write at least one major item per year).
  44.   - One copy of each article or book must be forwarded, free of charge, to
  45.     the Executive Director for the ASP's files.
  46.   - Press Members will be included as a choice in the monthly Group
  47.     Mailing.
  48.   - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as
  49.     Associate Members.

  53. - User Group Members:
  54.   $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1.
  55.   - One person from the organization shall represent it and have
  56.     membership privileges.
  57.   - At the minimum, the User Group must be a non-profit educational
  58.     organization with members, regular meetings, and a newsletter. It
  59.     must actively inform its members about the shareware concept and
  60.     the necessity for registration.
  61.   - The Membership Committee will receive sample newsletters to help its
  62.     process.
  63.   - A subscription to User Group's newsletter must be forwarded, free of
  64.     charge, to the Executive Director for the ASP's files.
  65.   - User Group Members will be included as a choice in the monthly Group
  66.     Mailing.
  67.   - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as
  68.     Associate Members.

  70. - Probationary Author Members:
  71.   Dues to be the same as Author Members and will transfer upon acheiving
  72.     full Author Member status.
  73.   - At the minimum, the applicant must be actively working on one or more
  74.     programs to be released as shareware.
  75.   - The Membership Committee will receive previous works, documentation,
  76.     or other materials helpful to the process of admission consideration.
  77.   - Membership will be valid for ONLY 6 months before submission of one
  78.     or more shareware programs to the Author Membership Committee.
  79.   - Use of the ASP's beta test facilities on CompuServe will be allowed.
  80.   - Where practical, Probationary Author Members will be assigned to "Big
  81.     Brothers/Sisters" for voluntary aid, assistance, and advice. This
  82.     normally requires the Member to have CompuServe access.
  83.   - Upon acceptance by the AMC, membership will rollover into full Author
  84.     Member Status.

  86. - Friends of Shareware:
  87.   $50/year dues - prorated 1/2 for members joining after September 1.
  88.   - At the minimum, the applicant must be a user and/or promoter of
  89.     shareware.
  90.       (This category is aimed at corporate MIS, educators, consultants,
  91.        etc. rather than individual users.)
  92.   - The Membership Committee will receive any materials available which
  93.     will help with the process. Interviews and recommendations will be
  94.     important.
  95.   - Will be able to use the ASP logo to describe themselves as
  96.     Associate Members.
